Add a MIDI pattern and choose its instrument
A pattern is a short, ready-made musical phrase. Use it as a starting point, then change its notes, tempo, performance and instrument.
Find a useful phrase
Open the pattern side panel in the MIDI workspace. If it is hidden, use the side-panel control near the ribbon. Browse the available categories and audition a few options. A simple phrase with an obvious rhythm and melodic direction is a good first choice.
The preview presents the pattern with its prepared sound. Once inserted, playback also depends on the project's track instrument, register, level and processing.
Insert the pattern deliberately
- Decide whether you need a new part or material on an existing track.
- Check the selected track and cursor position. Read the tooltip for the pattern card's insertion action.
- Add it once and confirm that the clip appears in the intended place.
- Check the assigned instrument. A melodic phrase should not accidentally use a drum kit, nor a drum pattern an ordinary melodic sound.
- Play the project, not just the pattern card. Listen to the new part alongside the existing arrangement.
Change the sound without rewriting the notes
Select the track and use its change/replace-instrument action. Find an instrument family in the catalogue, check the natural range, audition a candidate and confirm it. The existing notes and musical pattern remain the basis of the part.
If a bass phrase sounds odd on a flute, its register may be the problem rather than a broken instrument. An octave change may help, but keep the original and listen to the change first.
Imported MIDI may receive an exact, compatible or approximate instrument match. This is useful information about the timbre, not a guarantee that it will sound identical to the source application.
Make the pattern your own
Shorten the last note, remove a hit or change the ending of the second phrase. Then adjust velocity. A few purposeful changes often work better than altering every event at random.
If the preview plays but the track is silent
Check M and S in Studio, the track level, the selected clip and the playhead position. Wait for the instrument to load. Make sure the notes are in a useful range for that instrument. If audio preparation still fails, follow the playback checklist.
On a slower computer, prepare and audition one new part before adding another. Avoid starting many previews and generation tasks together.
